We have created a booklet explaining how to make the "Karusan" that we produce in our shop.
Please note that this site sells digital data for download, not a paper booklet. If you wish to purchase a paper booklet, please refer to this site.
We have compiled an easy-to-understand guide on how to make "karusan" tapered pants, which are made only by cutting straight lines. With a silhouette that is a cross between "tatsuke" and "hakama", they are very popular. The design is suitable for men and women of all ages.
We created this with the hope that many people would make "karusan", which were thought to have been made by an old woman born in the Meiji era in the mountain village of Itoshiro, Gifu Prefecture.
The contents are:
・An Attempt at Karusan
・How to Make Karusan
・Measurements
・How to Determine Dimensions
・Cutting
・Sewing
・Applications
・Tips for Cutting Kimono Fabric Width
・Children's Karusan
・Afterword
.
Please do pick it up.
After your purchase, we will send you an email with the data download URL. Please download and use it from there.

■ Hashtag for clothes made using the instructions
We received a request from a customer saying, "I would like you to create a hashtag so that I can see what other people have made." When uploading photos of your creations to social media, please tag them with the following along with your photos:
#itoshirokarusan
And for clothes other than karusan, please add:
#itoshirotatsuke
#itoshirohakama
#itoshiroechizenshirt
#itoshirosleeveless
By doing so, when you search by hashtag, you can see what others have made.
■ Production Story
Many people are surprised that Itoshiro Clothing Store is openly sharing detailed instructions for making the clothes we primarily produce and sell. We decided to share the instructions because we want more people to know about the wonderfulness of "tatsuke."
Originally, we were generously taught by the grandmothers in the community. We want to pass this on to many people and share the surprise and joy of making something, or the pleasure of wearing clothes we made ourselves.
We also hold workshops based on this booklet irregularly, and we hope to share the joy of working with our hands together.
