We have created a booklet explaining how to make the new "sleeveless" garment that our shop will be releasing this autumn.
Please note that this item is sold as a digital download, not a paper booklet. If you wish to purchase the paper booklet, please visit this site.
This is the fourth in our series of making instructions, following "tattsuke," "hakama," and "Echizen shirt." This garment is also made by straight cutting only, and is a vest-shaped garment without sleeves. It has been arranged in a modern style, so the back neckline has a slight curve.
Among our traditional clothing series, this one has the fewest parts, the simplest construction, and is probably the easiest, but the cutting is key and has some surprises.
It can be used as a stylish garment in spring and summer with thin fabrics, or to keep your back warm in autumn and winter with warm fabrics. It's a design that can be used for both formal and casual occasions, so please try it with various fabrics.
*Advice
・Suitable fabrics: Since the shoulder width is adjusted with tucks, softer fabrics that conform to the body will result in a more comfortable fit than stiffer fabrics. (Required fabric yardage is stated in the instructions).
・Hand-sewing or machine-sewing: Both methods are possible. The instructions allow for hand-sewing everything even without an overlock machine.
・It is also possible to make a long version depending on your arrangement.
*Please note that in some regions, this style was used as winter clothing with cotton padding (and was used for such purposes in Itoshiro as well), but the current instructions are based on a sleeveless garment used for fashion, not for cold weather protection.

◾️About hashtags when making clothes based on the instructions

#itoshirosleeveless
For other garments besides karusan, please also include:

■ Production Story
Many people are surprised that we meticulously publish the instructions for making the clothes that Itoshiro Yōhinten primarily produces and sells. We decided to publish the instructions because we want more people to know about the wonderful traditional clothing passed down in Itoshiro.
Originally, we ourselves were generously taught by the grandmothers in the region. We want to pass this on to many people and share the surprise and joy of creating something, as well as the pleasure of wearing clothes you've made yourself.
