Lightweight checked fabric

A thin, cool, soft linen check rescue fabric. Simply put, it’s a fabric with such a cute check pattern.

A shirt, hakama, and karusan all work

Because it’s lightweight, the Echizen shirt is especially recommended.

It can be made either by hand or by machine. Along with the Echizen shirt, we also recommend the hakama and karusan.

Both are wide-cut, so despite being thin, they make for cool pants that let in a soft breeze.

Try matching the pattern, too!

Since it’s a check pattern, ideally you’ll want to match it. That said, even if you can’t, the check isn’t so bold that it stands out too much, so just do what you can. There are lots of square pieces, so the construction is simple and not especially difficult. Please give it a try.

Because this is the season when you sweat a lot

Linen is ideal in sweaty weather. It wicks away moisture, and the long sleeves also help protect you from the sun. The more you use and wash it, the softer it becomes, so you can enjoy it for a long time.

Limited quantities because it’s a rescue fabric

This high-quality, comfortable fabric was destined to be discarded, yet it has been given new life as a "rescue fabric." It makes you think about the hidden side of the apparel industry. We rescue fabrics that were born into the world as wonderful materials and offer them to you. There will be no re-production, so stock is limited. If you’re interested, please make use of it.

Important notes

Because of the dye used in the fabric, your hands may turn blue during the sewing process, so please be aware of that. (We do not accept returns due to complaints about color transfer.) Please wash it separately from white items for the first three washes or so.

■About the fabric
Composition: 100% hemp
Fabric width: 150cm
Length: 1.5m
＊The Echizen shirt and karusan can be made in sizes 1 to 3. The hakama can be made up to a length of about 120cm.
＊It can be sewn by hand or with a sewing machine.

■About washing
Before sewing, hand wash it or place it in a laundry net and wash it on a gentle cycle.
Please note that it may shrink depending on the washing machine and washing method.

■Production story
Itoshiro Yomiseiten publishes the patterns for its own pants. This time, we planned the fabric needed for making them by hand. The reason is that we, too, were generously taught how to make the "Echizen shirt" by local people.
In the past, everyone naturally made tatzuke pants, and all family members wore them. People created their own lives as a matter of course.
We can’t live exactly as our predecessors did, but we hope to share the joy of making things by hand and the happiness of wearing something you made yourself with as many people as possible, which is why we also hold workshops regularly.
