[Karusan Kit] Linen, natural color/hand-sewn

This is a hand-sewing kit for making a twisted-sleeve haori.

We’ve put together this kit with all the materials you need to make a twisted-sleeve haori, for anyone who already owns a full set of sewing supplies at home. You can create a wide range of sizes, up to our store’s size 3 (for heights up to 185cm, waist 75–85cm, total length 105cm).

The fabric is 100% premium domestic linen woven in Shiga Prefecture. It becomes softer and develops a wonderful, lived-in texture the more you use it. Its undyed natural white shade makes it easy to pair with any outfit, so you won’t stress over styling it.

The included thread is cotton, so you can later dye it with plant-based dyes or indigo. You can first enjoy the haori in its natural white state, then dye it a different color to enjoy a whole new look.

The tutorial for making a twisted-sleeve haori is not included with this kit, so please purchase it separately. 

What's Included:
• Fabric: Undyed natural white / 100% linen Approximately 150cm wide, 2.3 meters long

This is a mid-weight plain-weave fabric used in our in-store tailoring workshops. It’s beginner-friendly and easy to hand-sew.

• Hand-sewing thread: Daruma Home Sewing Thread, 100% cotton, white, bulky weight (#20), 100m

• Buttons: Genuine water buffalo horn, brown, 20mm (semi-gloss)

* You can sew the entire garment entirely by hand.

■ Production Story

Ishidatsuraba Yoheen Shop first published instructions for making our own branded pants, and this time we set out to create a sewing kit. The reason for this is that we, too, were generously taught how to make clothes by members of our local community.

Not so long ago, it was second nature for everyone to make their own clothes, with every member of the family wearing what they had crafted. They naturally built their daily lives just like our ancestors did.

We can’t live exactly like our ancestors did, but we want to share the joy of making things by hand and the satisfaction of wearing something you made yourself with as many people as possible. That’s why we regularly host workshops and other events.
