Make pajamas with rescue silk
"Hakama" and "Echizen Shirt" kits
*Kits are now available for individual sale! (2/3)
White silk fabrics that were meant for kimonos are now lying unused because of the decreasing demand for kimonos.

These high-quality, incredibly comfortable silk fabrics are too good to be left unused! It's a waste!
So, we've started a project to "rescue" them and make pajamas with an exquisite feel.
The pajamas consist of an "Echizen Shirt" for the top and "hakama" for the bottom.

Even if you make two sets, there's still plenty of fabric, so you can also make the Echizen shirt into a dress or lengthen the hakama.
(Photo: Echizen shirt in size 3, hakama made with a length of 94cm. Worn by someone 155cm tall)
There are two types of silk.
Tango Chirimen: 3 cuts of fabric (approx. 4m cut x 3 pieces)
These rolls of fabric were rescued during a visit to a wholesaler in Kyoto. They are exquisite silk fabrics with a crepe texture, but they were left unused because they were cut. Please check the cut dimensions before proceeding with cutting.

This is standard Tango chirimen, a fabric roll used for the finest kimonos. Its crepe texture gently embraces the skin.
Tango Chirimen with diamond weave pattern (12.85m)

It has an elegant feel with a diamond weave pattern. There is a large discolored area at the edge of the fabric, so please avoid it when cutting.

Using these fabrics, let's make one "Echizen shirt" and one "hakama," slightly adapted for pajamas. A set of instructions for the adaptations is included.
Since the fabrics are "rescued," there may be some discoloration or stains in places. Because of this, the price is very reasonable. Please understand and acknowledge this point.

【Preparation for making】
Please pre-wash the fabric. Soak it in water, lightly dehydrate it, and hang it to dry. Iron it at a low temperature with a pressing cloth.
*If you want to machine wash it for daily care, put it in a net and use a gentle cycle. Iron out wrinkles. Shrinkage will occur, but pre-shrinking before sewing will make it less noticeable later. For crepe fabrics, be careful not to overstretch the crepe with the iron.
*We will make the items based on the instructions for making the Echizen shirt and hakama. The "Instruction Book" is sold separately, so if you don't have it, please purchase it using the option button.
*You can make it by hand or with a sewing machine. Please choose your preferred method.
*The fabric is soft, so it may be challenging for beginners.
*Cutting and sewing will be done based on the "Silk Pajama Making Instructions" while using "How to make an Echizen Shirt" (3rd edition) and "How to make Hakama" (3rd edition) as a base. [Instructor: Hiromi Goto]
