Let's make pajamas from rescued silk
Hakama and Echizen Shirt Kit
+ Sewing consultation session (August 24 or September 7)
The white silk fabric that was supposed to be used for kimonos has been sitting unused as demand for kimonos has dropped.

These are high-quality, incredibly comfortable silk fabrics. It's such a waste to let them sit unused like this!
We've launched a project to "rescue" these fabrics and turn them into ultra-luxurious, soft pajamas.
This pajama set features an Echizen Shirt as the top and a Hakama as the bottom.

Even if you make two pairs of pajamas, there's plenty of fabric left, so you can also convert an Echizen shirt into a one-piece dress or lengthen the hem of hakama.
(Photo: The Echizen shirt is size 3, the hakama was made with a 94cm length. Worn by someone 155cm tall.)
This is a fabric plus consultation session bundle (attendance at the consultation is optional). Feel free to reach out with any questions about your measurements or how to complete the project.

About Our Rescued Silk Fabric
We have two types of silk available this time.
Hama Chirimen:
The first silk we're introducing today is Hama Chirimen, made in Nagahama, Shiga. It's extremely high-quality and has long been regarded as one of the finest fabrics in the kimono industry.

I visited the master weavers and heard countless stories about their craft. This region is defined entirely by Hama Chirimen, and their unwavering dedication to creating delicate, premium fabrics... it was incredibly profound. We were specially granted access to leftover cut pieces this time.
Compared to standard chirimen fabric, it's delicate and beautiful, with an exceptionally smooth feel against the skin. You'll definitely enjoy restful sleep in it.
A. 4-piece cut fabric (4m × 4 pieces)
B. 2-piece cut fabric (8m × 1 piece, 4m × 1 piece)
* It's more affordable than Option A, as the total length of fabric is shorter.
Tango Chirimen: 3-piece cut fabric (approx. 4m × 3 pieces)
This is rescued bolt fabric we obtained from a Kyoto wholesaler. It's a premium textured silk fabric that had been sitting unused because it had already been cut to specific sizes. Please confirm the cut dimensions before beginning your sewing project.

This is standard Tango Chirimen, a fabric used for top-tier kimonos. Its textured weave gently wraps and cushions your skin.
Tango Chirimen Diamond Weave Pattern (12.85m)

It features an elegant diamond weave pattern. There are some noticeable scorch marks along the fabric edges, so please avoid using those sections.

Use these fabrics to make one custom-adjusted Echizen Shirt and one custom-adjusted Hakama, modified for use as pajamas. This set includes an instruction manual that explains all the custom alterations.
Since these are rescued fabrics, some may have minor sun fading or small stains in certain areas. That's why we're able to offer them at a very competitive price. Please keep this in mind when placing your order.

【Pre-Sewing Preparation】
Pre-wash the fabric. Submerge it in water, lightly wring out excess moisture, then hang to dry. Press the fabric with a low-heat iron using a press cloth.
* If you plan to machine wash this fabric regularly, place it in a laundry bag and use a gentle cycle. Smooth out any wrinkles with an iron before sewing. The fabric will shrink slightly, but pre-washing will prevent unexpected shrinkage once your pajamas are completed. For textured fabrics, be careful not to flatten the natural texture too much when ironing.
* We will base your pajama construction on the Echizen shirt and hakama sewing patterns. The official pattern guides are sold separately, so please purchase them via the option buttons if you do not already have them.
* This project can be completed either by hand or with a sewing machine. Choose the method that works best for you.
* The fabric is very soft and delicate, so it may pose a challenge for beginner sewers.
*"Echizen Shirt Sewing Guide" (3rd Edition)and"Hakama Sewing Guide" (3rd Edition)we will use these guides as a base, and follow the instructions in the Silk Pajama Sewing Manual to cut and sew your pieces. [Instructor: Hiromi Goto]
