About the Echizen Dress

The Echizen Dress is a dress designed to be comfortably worn in modern daily life, while rooted in the traditional garment "Echizen Shirt" from Itoshiro. Based on the structure of the Echizen Shirt, which originated as workwear, it has been tailored into a form that can be worn more freely and lightly in daily life.

The philosophy of Itoshiro Yōhinten's clothing production—natural materials, botanical dyeing, and straight-line cutting—is imbued in its simple design.

About the Echizen Shirt

The straight-line cut creates a form that doesn't constrict the body

Like a kimono, the Echizen Dress is tailored with straight-line cutting. Cutting in straight lines minimizes fabric waste and simultaneously creates a form that naturally adapts to the wearer's body shape.

A presence that doesn't emphasize the body's lines, with a certain spaciousness. The swaying of the fabric when moving and the flow of air are also comforts unique to this structure.

About the Design

The Echizen Dress is more like an open-front dress, an extension of a shirt, rather than what is typically called a dress. It is designed to create a relaxed look while utilizing the basic structure of the Echizen Shirt.

Wear it as a dress with the front closed, or as a cover-up with it open. By not limiting how it can be worn, it has become a versatile piece that naturally fits into daily life.

Material: Japanese Linen

For the material, we use 100% linen, which is comfortable for spring and summer.

Shiga Prefecture has historically been a hemp production area. We source our fabric from a weaving mill there that produces fabric in a way that suits the modern era. The fabric is carefully made with high skill. It's a very high-quality linen that has firmness but becomes softer with use.

With its smooth and refreshing feel and excellent breathability, you can stay comfortable even in sweaty seasons.

Indigo Dyeing in Itoshiro

Indigo, a traditional Japanese color. We prepare it using indigo leaves grown in our own fields and perform indigo dyeing during the summer.

This product was dyed in our indigo vat in 2023. Although it's a light shade, it has been dyed multiple times. Please enjoy the refreshing impression of this sky blue.

Comfort and Silhouette

A relaxed width and a straight, flowing line. The silhouette is closer to a straight I-line, not flaring out towards the hem. It can also be worn as a dress on its own with a waist tie.

It's designed to suit all body types and is easy to style for both elegant and casual looks. The airflow and space between the skin and the clothing make it cool to wear even in summer.

It is one size fits all. Please refer to the size chart below for body width, total length, sleeve length, etc.

Care Instructions

• Turn inside out, place in a net, and wash gently with neutral detergent on a delicate cycle.
• Dry in the shade while still inside out.
• As botanical dyes are sensitive to light, store in a dark place.
• Iron from the inside out at a medium to low temperature.
• If you want to completely remove wrinkles from linen, iron when semi-dry for a neat finish.
• Repair and re-dyeing services are available. [Only from May to August] during the summer.
