2024.2/17-19 First "Karusan" Making Workshop ~2 nights and 3 days learning about clothing while experiencing life in a snowy country~

A 3-day, 2-night trip to Itoshiro in winter to experience life in a snowy country, learn about clothing, and make "Karusan," a traditional straight-cut garment from the region.

Itoshiro, located deep in the mountains of Gujo, Gifu, is a place of deep snow. Two or three meters of snowfall prevents people from traveling, and as the snow starts to fall, a very quiet season begins.

Although it is bitterly cold, when the pure white world comes, I always sigh at its beauty. In such an environment, doing handiwork while keeping warm is calming and feels like a luxurious time.

Why not spend three days and two nights with us making clothes while fully enjoying the charm of the Itoshiro area?

*These are times when you can come by public transport. If you have a car, please bring a studless vehicle (four-wheel drive if possible).

Day 1
13:30 Arrive at Itoshiro (greetings, self-introductions)
14:00 Measurements, fabric cutting, and serger sewing
18:00 Check-in at the inn & dinner social gathering (depending on the weather, there will be a candlelight night event in the evening, so please enjoy it!)

Day 2
9:00 Visit to the shrine and visit the antique museum
10:00 Stitching Time (at a clothing store)
12:00 Lunch (bento), shop tour
13:00 I sew while sitting in the kotatsu.
*There will be a break
16:00 Toshiharu talks about the clothing culture of the past
18:00 Dinner

Day 3
9:00 Prickly Time
12:00 Curry lunch
13:00 Finished and finished photo taken (bus departs at 13:21)

*You will have free time in the evening. Recommended ways to spend your time include going to a nearby hot spring (Manten-no-yu) or stargazing (although it's cold).

■ What to bring
Sewing tools (dressmaking scissors, thread cutters, ruler (50-60cm if available), tape measure, chalk pen, sewing thread (cotton thread #50 or Schappespan #60 to match the fabric), basting pins (10 pcs), pincushion), fabric (if not available we will provide fabric for 4,000 yen), overnight kit. Please bring enough cold weather gear as the snow may be deep and temperatures may drop below freezing.

*Please prepare medium-weight linen, cotton, cotton-linen, etc.

*The fabrics we will be sharing are listed on the following website. Please refer to it for your consideration.
・Unbleached linen fabric

*We have sewing machines available. However, we may not be able to provide one for each person, so please take turns using them.

Participation fee: 35,000 yen (excluding accommodation fee of 7,000 yen or more per night, plus lunch fee of about 1,000 yen each on the second and third days, please pay on-site)

*The number of rooms at the guesthouse is limited, so you may have to share a room.

*Depending on your experience, you may not be able to complete the project within the time limit. In that case, we will continue to teach you how to make the project.
