Wash by hand before sewing, or place the fabric in a laundry bag and wash with gentle running water.
Please note that fabric may shrink depending on your washing machine and washing method.
■ Production Story
Ishidarezumi Western Goods Shop publishes patterns for making our own pants. This time, we developed a fabric kit for making items by hand. The reason for this is that we, too, were generously taught how to make an Echizen shirt by local community members. It is said that in the past, everyone would make Tatsuke as a matter of course, and every member of their family wore them. We naturally created our own daily lives just like our ancestors did. We may not be able to practice every aspect of our ancestors' lifestyles, but we want to share the joy of making things by hand and the pleasure of wearing something you made yourself with as many people as possible, so we regularly hold workshops and similar events.
* While it is possible to make the entire shirt by hand, finishing the raw edges with a blind hem stitch requires skill and time. A serger or zigzag sewing machine is very convenient for finishing fabric raw edges.
* Echizen shirts are more difficult and require more patience than Tatsuke and hakama. This is a hand-sewing kit, but you may also sew with a standard sewing machine if you prefer. Enjoy making clothes at your own pace, and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
* The detailed product photos show fabrics dyed in loquat (pink) and indigo. If your shirt gets dirty, we recommend overdyeing it so you can enjoy wearing it for years to come!
* The indigo-dyed Echizen shirt is shown being worn by a 164cm-tall woman wearing size 1.
