Fabric for making "hakama" and "karusan"
This is an undyed, natural linen fabric for making hakama and karusan. It is 150cm wide and 1.5m long, so karusan can be made in sizes 1 through 3, and hakama can be made up to a long length of around 150cm.

A smooth texture
This is a very comfortable fabric, perfect for summer. It is medium-thick, with good body and structure, making it ideal for wide-leg pants such as hakama and karusan.

High-quality Japanese linen fabric
The more you use it, the softer and more comfortable it becomes. Pieces used for one to two years or longer will feel softer and more pleasant, so please enjoy it for years to come.

■ About the fabric
Material 100% linen
Origin Shiga Prefecture
Fabric width 150cm
Length 1.5m
* Can be made in karusan sizes 1 to 3.
* Hakama can be made up to 150cm in length.
*This is the same 100% linen material as our Echizen shirts, and it is a medium-thick fabric that is easy to sew, even by hand or for beginners.
■ About the kit
In addition to the fabric, you can buy all the materials needed for making it together (+1,500 yen)

- Waist elastic: 1cm wide 2m
- Waist ties: 1cm wide 2m
- Thread: Daruma household thread (2 types of hand-sewing thread)
- 1. White #20, thick, 100% cotton, 100m spool: Because it is thicker, it is durable. Since it is white thread, it is recommended when you want stitches to stand out.
- 2. Greige (same color as the fabric) #30, fine, 100% cotton, 100m spool: Although it is fine, we recommend using it single-stranded. Because it is the same color as the fabric, the stitches are not noticeable.

■ About washing
Before sewing, hand wash it or place it in a laundry net and wash it on a gentle cycle.
Please note that it may shrink depending on the washing machine or washing method.
■ Production story
Itoshiro Yōhinten makes its own pants patterns available to the public. This time, we planned the fabric needed to make them by hand. The reason is that we, too, were generously taught how to make "hakama" by people in the local community.
In the past, it was normal for everyone to make tattsuke, and all family members wore them. People naturally made their own lives for themselves.
We may not be able to live exactly as our predecessors did, but we want to share the joy of making things by hand and the happiness of wearing something you made yourself with as many people as possible, so we also hold workshops regularly.
* It is possible to make everything by hand, but the edge finishing uses felled seams, so it requires skill and time.A lockstitch machine or zigzag sewing machine is useful for finishing fabric edges
* Karusan worn (3-5 pieces) Height 164cm wearing size 2
* Hakama worn (6-8 pieces) Height 155cm wearing length 95cm
