Straight-Line Cutting Creates a Non-Constricting Shape

The Echizen Dress is made with straight-line cutting, just like a kimono. Cutting in a straight line minimizes fabric waste and simultaneously creates a shape that naturally adapts to the wearer's body.

The silhouette does not emphasize the body's lines, giving it a somewhat spacious appearance. The sway of the fabric when moving and the flow of air are comforts unique to this structure.

About the Design

The Echizen Dress is more of an open-front dress, an extension of a shirt, rather than a typical dress. While utilizing the basic structure of the Echizen Shirt, it is designed to create a relaxed look.

It can be worn as a dress by closing the front, or as a light jacket by leaving it open. By not limiting how it's worn, it has become a versatile piece that naturally fits into daily life.

About the Material - Domestic Linen

The material used is 100% linen, comfortable for spring and summer.

Shiga Prefecture has historically been a hemp producing region. We source our fabric from a weaving factory there that adapts its weaving to the times. The fabric is carefully crafted with high skill. It has firmness but becomes softer with each use, making it a very high-quality linen. Its crisp, refreshing feel and good breathability ensure comfort even in sweaty seasons.

Botanical Dyeing in Itoshiro

For dyeing, we use botanical dyes made from wild plants collected in Itoshiro. The sakura pink is dyed with cherry branches collected from the mountains after breaking in the heavy snow of winter. It is a special botanical dye that is only done in years with heavy snowfall.

It's a wonderful experience even for us dyers, as a soft pink, evocative of cherry blossoms, mysteriously emerges from brown branches.

The gentle, spring-like color unique to sakura dye blends in as you wear it, revealing various expressions depending on the season and light.

Comfort and Silhouette

A relaxed body width and a straight-falling line. The silhouette is close to a straight I-line, not flaring towards the hem. It can also be worn as a dress on its own with a waist tie.

It is a shape that suits various body types and can be easily styled for both elegant and casual occasions. The air circulation and space between the skin and the garment make it cool to wear even in summer.

It is a free size. Please refer to the size chart below for body width, total length, sleeve length, etc.

Care Instructions

• Turn inside out, place in a net, and wash with a neutral detergent on a delicate cycle.
• Hang to dry in the shade, keeping it inside out.
• Botanical dyes are sensitive to light, so store in a dark place.
• Iron from the inside out at a medium to low temperature.
• If you want to completely remove linen wrinkles, iron while the fabric is semi-dry for a neat finish.
• We also offer repair and re-dyeing services. However, sakura dyeing can only be done in years with heavy snow, so the re-dyeing period is flexible. It is possible to over-dye with indigo [only in summer: May-August].
