Our shop has created a booklet that explains how to make Karusan, the custom garment we craft in our store.  

We’ve put together an easy-to-follow guide for making Karusan tapered pants, which only require straight cuts. It features a design that sits between Tatsuke and Hakama, and it’s extremely popular.

We created this booklet because we want as many people as possible to learn how to make Karusan, a garment traditionally made in the mountain villages of Ishidora, Gifu Prefecture.

■Production Story

Many people are surprised that we’re sharing detailed instructions for the garments we primarily produce and sell as Ishidora General Store. We decided to share these tutorials because we want more people to discover the wonderful appeal of Tatsuke.

Originally, we learned these skills from the local elder women in our community, who shared their knowledge generously. We want to pass this knowledge on to others, and share the surprise and joy of making your own clothes, as well as the pleasure of wearing garments you’ve made yourself.

We also host irregular workshops based on this booklet, so we hope we can share the joy of getting hands-on together.
