A loose fit but easy to move in. A beautifully worn black lightweight shirt.

Tapered pants for easy movement

These tapered pants are loose from the waist to above the knees, but have a slim silhouette down to the hem, allowing for easy movement and ease of movement.

The crotch has a large gusset, which is a unique design that allows for a wider range of motion.

The long-awaited black

There have been many requests for black. This time, we have made it a reality by using eco-dyed fabric. The easy-to-coordinate black color goes with anything. It can be used in a wide range of situations, from work to going out.

The back style is also beautiful

The clean back style makes the crotch gusset invisible. It has a sleeker silhouette than previous "tatsuke" and "hakama" styles.

About Karusan >

Organic Cotton Twill Fabric

This twill fabric is dyed and woven in Hiroshima using organic cotton grown in Uganda. The more you use it, the softer it becomes, so it is a high-quality fabric that you can enjoy watching change over time.

The fabric is tightly woven and firm, yet soft and comfortable against the skin.

Environmentally friendly dyeing method

The dyeing process is eco-dyed, which is environmentally friendly. The color fades more slowly and lasts longer than the indigo dye used for regular denim.

Available in 3 sizes

There are three sizes. Size 1 is worn by a person who is 160cm tall.

Size 2 is worn by someone who is 160cm tall.

■ Production Story

Toshiharu, an 80-year-old man born and raised in Itoshiro, carefully preserves his old clothes. He says he watched his grandmother weaving from his childhood.

I recreated the shape of the pants that were in that collection. It's a new shape that's different from the "tatsuke" and "hakama" that we've made. It seems that it was made through trial and error to find something that was neither too slim nor too wide, and suited his own body type, and this shape does not seem to be something that was commonly found in Itoshiro.

There were traces of the designers making the pants out of the fabric they had on hand. We named them "Karusan," a word that refers to wide pants and is also used in Itoshiro.

[Background to the creation of the Black Series]

Why did I want to make black bottoms? It all started with this old piece of fabric.

This is a "tatsuke" that was made over 100 years ago and was used by an old man. Almost all of these old clothes are indigo dyed, but this one was dyed black.

When I asked the locals "What is this dyed with?" they replied "It doesn't look like indigo dye, so I wonder what it is..." and I was left without a clue.

However, I have always been intrigued by this deep, deep black color and have always wanted to develop a black series someday.

We also tried various methods of plant dyeing, but black was difficult to produce in this region. We tried layering walnut leaves, gallnuts, and indigo... At one point we even tried a black color using almond leaves in Cambodia, but the price was too high to release.

After searching for years for a black fabric that satisfied me, I came across a weaver in Hiroshima and found an eco-dyed black fabric.

In addition to getting inspiration from old clothes, I am very happy that we were able to fulfill the many requests we received for black bottoms.
