I am happy that we have more friends who are sharing the culture of Itoshiro with us.
The instructors will be holding workshops in their local areas, so please come and join us. Please see the following page for information on the workshops.

Workshop List

Kumiko Nagahama

Area of activity: Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture

Workshop Information

"In addition to the concerns about environmental issues and disasters that had been on my mind since I was a child, as an adult I began to feel doubts and discomfort about mass consumption society. I thought about it and researched it, and one of the things I came to was "making clothes that don't produce scraps." And then I came across Ishitoshiro Clothing Store's method for making tataki.
I was given the opportunity to take the "Tatsuke Instructor Certification Course," and set foot on the land of Itoshiro, experience the magnificent nature and culture of the area, and listen to the stories of the people who live there. I hope that by making Itoshiro's tatsuke, I can feel the wisdom and ingenuity of our ancestors alive there, and share the feeling of remembering something that I had forgotten."

Yoshino Kaori

Area of activity: Kanagawa Prefecture

Workshop Information

"I moved to Oiso Town in Kanagawa Prefecture, an area rich in nature, and enjoyed the bounty of the mountains and fields, as well as handicrafts such as dyeing and spinning thread, during which I discovered "tatsuke," a type of workwear.
Originally, I made clothes by hand sewing, but I always ended up with scraps. But with tatsuke, there is almost no waste of fabric. What's more, I can make clothes that are like custom-made to fit each person's body! They are also comfortable to wear.
As I sewed the many pieces of tatami mats assigned to the project, I realized that this is the joy of handmade craftsmanship.
For those who are used to sewing, sewing is like a fun puzzle, and even those who are not used to it can finish a unique outfit by working slowly one step at a time.
When I wear clothes that I sewed myself, I feel a deep sense of happiness."
With my time in Itoshiro in mind, I would be happy to help anyone who has the opportunity to work with me complete their project at their own pace!
