Indigo Dyeing Experience ~Let’s Dye a Tenugui Towel~
Please feel free to contact us via the Itoshiro Yosehinten Official LINE account.
Let's do authentic indigo dyeing using traditional methods
Traditional indigo dyeing has long been practiced in Japan. Why not experience it for yourself?
Blue born from a brown liquid. Indigo dyeing is a truly mysterious dyeing technique.
Managing it day to day is like raising a child. You stir it every day, and when it gets hungry, you feed it wheat bran made into a porridge... Since it won’t cry like a child, you need the ability to sense how the indigo is feeling using all five senses—no, even a sixth sense.
Please experience this wondrous dyeing for yourself.
You can also add patterns to your liking (you'll use the tools we have here, so design variations are somewhat limited, but please try combining them in different ways to create a beautifully dyed, creative fabric)

We handle indigo dyeing from the very first step of sowing seeds in the fields. In front of the indigo workshop where your items are dyed is an indigo field. We would be delighted if you could tour the fields as well and learn how indigo blue is created from green leaves.

Indigo dyeing is truly mysterious and wonderfully fascinating, so if you're curious about indigo dyeing, would like to try dyeing, or are interested in dyeing from crops grown in the field, please do join us.
