Building a community of people who create and sell tatsuke.

We are hosting a training course for certified Tatsuke instructors that will train 'Tatsuke Tailors' — creators who produce and sell Tatsuke goods.

It was once commonplace for people to make their own clothes or sew garments for their household. That practice faded away as we entered an era where we can choose from cheap, mass-produced clothing. This shift has led to clothing being easily consumed and discarded. To help people cherish their garments and use them for years to come, we need to further expand efforts to create transparent clothing where shoppers can understand its full background and the people who made it.

At the same time, clothing manufacturing in Japan is set to become increasingly challenging moving forward. A wave of regulatory changes has pushed many Japanese factories into precarious operating conditions. We are dedicated to preserving Japan’s exceptional domestic sewing craftsmanship, and passing that skill down to future generations. To raise Japan’s domestic clothing self-sufficiency rate, it is an urgent priority to train skilled workers who can create durable, well-constructed garments. That said, mass-producing clothing with no clear intended wearer only drains the energy and resources of the people who make those items. To grow the number of creators who can sustainably produce the right volume of clothing, for the right audience, at a fair price, we have made the decision to host a workshop series covering the following content.

・For all individuals who have earned Tatsuke Workshop certified instructor status and wish to create and continuously sell Tatsuke-style garments and other related apparel
・ Individuals selected by Iwatetsushira Apparel Shop as suitable to work as made-to-measure tailors, based on their sewing skills and experience.

・Fabric selection, manufacturing techniques, product inspection, mandatory quality labeling requirements, and all other production-related content (technical)
・Content related to support services such as repairs and maintenance (technical)
・About cost accounting. (Classroom lecture)
・Creation of a business plan. Management perspective (classroom-based learning)
・Knowledge and methods related to sales and public relations (classroom instruction)
・Regarding PR support and PR costs

Within six months of completing the course, you will be required to submit one of each clothing item you plan to sell. After our team reviews your submissions, you will be officially certified as a "Tatsuke Tailor". (Items that have already earned "Instructor Certification" qualify for the "Tailor" designation. If you have not yet obtained certification, please complete that process before advancing to the Tailor track. For all designs that are not Tatsuke, we charge a 5,000 yen certification fee per style.)
You will be required to submit your business plan (a template is provided) along with your homework.

Course fee: 88,000 yen (includes lunch for day 2 and day 3)

Akihide Hirano
Executive at Iwatetsuhaku Western Goods Store. Former management consultant. For this course, I will be in charge of developing the critical core business plan.

Keisei Hirano
Owner of Itoshiroyo Goods Store. I am currently working to spread straight-cut clothing styles like Tatsuke's to audiences around the world. In this program, I will share the core philosophies behind this work, as well as guidance on PR and promotional efforts.

Hiromi Goto
I work as a designer, production manager, and WS instructor at 石徹白洋品店. For this course, I will be in charge of providing technical guidance.
