A classic piece adapted from a 'sleeveless' style

We created this by adapting an old sleeveless vest-style garment. The fact that the left and right shoulder designs differ to avoid wasting fabric reflects the wisdom of our predecessors. This time, we extended the length of the sleeveless style to make a vest dress.

It’s very convenient to wear over shirts or dresses during cold seasons. The length pairs well with pants too.

As soft as cashmere, no scratchy texture

It’s a gentle fabric, so even those who don’t typically like wool can wear it. This is the perfect piece for people who previously thought they didn’t enjoy wool.

Natural-colored sheep

This brown is the natural color of wool. It’s a fabric developed using rare Black Merino wool, whose global population is small. Since it’s a natural color, it has a soft, versatile vibe that pairs well with anything.

[Background Story]

The 'sleeveless' this garment is based on was once handmade by grandmothers. It had two main uses: one was cold protection—they inserted cotton into the back to stay warm. The other was formal wear—wearing a sleeveless over a work happi was considered formal attire. This is a photo of it used for formal purposes.

As cold-weather gear, it seems it was worn during work. A woman wearing a face covering is shown in a sleeveless that reaches her hips.

While interviewing elders in Shirasaki, we aim to create clothing that carries on the traditions passed down here, to hand them over in a better form for the next generation.

The 'sleeveless' is exactly one such tradition. We’d love for as many people as possible to incorporate this wonderful, waste-free garment with its straight-cut design into their daily lives.
