A 2-night, 3-day workshop in Itoshiro to make a sleeveless garment with silk batting

The silkworms raised in the "Learning about clothing from silkworms" course, held from May to June this year, will be used. We will make a sleeveless garment filled with "raw silk batting" made from these cocoons.

"Sode-nashi" is something that has traditionally been worn like a vest. It is said that it was used for formal wear without batting, or filled with batting to provide warmth.
(The woman second from the right is wearing a sleeveless garment.)
In the past, people practiced sericulture and turned silkworms that could not be shipped into raw silk batting, which they used for self-sufficient clothing, I’ve heard. This time, we will make it by filling the sleeveless garment with cotton batting and raw silk batting. Since the pattern-making book does not include instructions for adding batting, this will be a special program together with the "Silkworms" course.
If you are interested, please join us. (Participants in the Silkworms course will be given priority.)
