First-ever event
Stylish shirt created with straight-line cutting
Let’s enjoy some stitching and complete it over a 2-night, 3-day stay in Itoshiro.
Suitable for: Beginners to experienced users
Difficulty: ★★★☆☆
Method: Hand-sewnorSewing machine

A design that surprises people with, “Was this really cut in straight lines!?”
This is the first workshop for three-sleeve shirts.

Popular design and silhouette
Made entirely with straight lines, this open-collar-style shirt features clever construction that even experienced makers will enjoy.

Add impact with Hakama-like sleeves.
These sleeves are actually patterned using the bottoms known as Hakama. One of the real pleasures is discovering, through making them, how people in the past created things like this with flexibility and ingenuity.

Making loops is fun too

Q&A About Participation
Q1. I’m new to making clothes—can I still join?
A. Yes, beginners have participated before as well.
Three-panel sleeve shirts are made with a straight-cut pattern, so
Both cutting and sewing are done almost entirely at the last minute.
In this course,
• How to think about determining dimensions
How to handle fabric / Cutting method
• Sewing order
• How to finish seam allowances
I'll explain each one carefully, one by one.
Rather than “making it well”
“Experiencing the Japanese approach to clothing-making” is something we value, so
Please join us regardless of your level of experience.
I’m not very handy, so I’m worried about whether I can finish making it.
A. Rest assured, we will fully support you through to completion.
With small class sizes, we proceed while monitoring each person's progress.
If there’s anything you don’t understand, please ask as many times as needed on the spot.
Nor is this a course aimed at achieving a "perfect finish."
We value using our hands to shape each piece into something uniquely our own.
Q3. I'm worried whether I'll be able to keep up physically.
A. We’ll proceed at a comfortable pace.
We’ll be staying for 2 nights and 3 days, but we value a good balance between work time and breaks.
It won't stay standing or remain sewn.
“Time to focus and work with your hands” and “time to learn about local culture”
We'll move forward while taking breaks, like stopping for tea.
Q4. What kind of people participate?
A. People of various ages and backgrounds participate.
Until now
・For those who love making clothes (especially if you feel conflicted about fabric scraps being left over!)
・Those interested in Japanese life and culture
・For those who want to spend time working with their hands in nature
A wide range of people participate, among others.
Even when meeting for the first time,
By sharing the time spent making the same thing,
It creates an atmosphere that naturally sparks conversation.
Please look forward to joining and think of it as a place to make friends!
Q5. It’s a long way to Itoshiro, but is it okay to join alone?
A. Most participants join on their own, so there’s no problem.
It’s a course with many participants coming from far away and many attending on their own.
We will also provide advance guidance on accommodations and transportation, so please rest assured.
The people who attend almost always say, "Because it was far away, I'm glad I came."
We are preparing a welcoming environment so that it becomes a time that feels that way to you.
Q6. What do I need to bring?
A. We will provide the large equipment needed for sewing, such as sewing machines and irons.
Please check the top of this page for details on what to bring.
If there are items that are difficult to obtain or transport, we can provide them here as well.
Please come without worrying.
What kind of clothes will it turn out to be?
A. We will tailor one karusan to fit your body.
"I'm interested, but I also have concerns."
Please come to Itoshiro with those feelings.
In this course, rather than whether you can or can’t,
Use your hands, feel it, and take it homeis important to us.
Notes
- There are no convenience stores or supermarkets nearby. Please bring anything you will need for your 3-day, 2-night stay, including snacks (we will provide some as well).
During the day, temperatures can rise above 30 degrees when the weather is nice, but it may feel chilly in the mornings and evenings or when it rains. We recommend bringing a lightweight long-sleeved top to keep warm.
