Make "Karusans" Online
(2026. 1/17, 24, 31, 2/7)
(Application deadline: until 12/31 *Deadline extended)
This workshop is for people who meet the following criteria:
This online workshop is not for those who are sewing for the first time.
・You have made clothes using dressmaking books or by self-study.
・You follow patterns but sometimes things don't turn out well, and you don't know why.
・You always struggle with fabric selection.
This workshop is for such people to create while understanding fabric, structure, and tailoring. Connect online from home and make "karusans" that fit you perfectly. You can participate by hand sewing or machine sewing, whichever you prefer.

"Karusans" are pants made entirely from straight-cut fabric. With their tapered design, they are comfortable to wear and easy to coordinate.

Due to the straight-cut design, a gusset is added to the crotch to provide a wider range of motion.
Let's enjoy making bottoms based on Japanese sewing techniques, where no fabric goes to waste.
Karusans come in 4 sizes, from size 0 to 3. (Updated with the instructions from the 2nd edition published on December 1, 2025). Please choose your preferred size.
This is a 160cm woman wearing size 0 (① Natural linen fabric).

This is a 160cm woman wearing size 1 (Linen cotton denim).

A 180cm man wearing size 2 (② Rescue fabric, green).

A 180cm man wearing size 3 (③ Sashiko-style rescue fabric).

About the Fabric
You can either prepare the fabric yourself or purchase it from our shop at the same time.
① Natural Linen: Recommended for all seasons except deep winter. It's a plain weave linen in its natural color, giving it a natural feel. Woven in Shiga Prefecture (100% Linen).
② Rescue Fabric Green / Dark Green: A cotton-linen blend fabric. It has a firm texture and luster, giving it a high-quality feel. Recommended for machine sewing. (52% Cotton, 42% Linen) Dark green is sold out.
③ Sashiko-style fabric: A popular fabric in dark navy with a textured appearance. Please be aware that your hands may turn blue while sewing. The color bleeding will stabilize after about 3 washes. (100% Cotton) Sold out

④Chambray-style Gray: A textured weave of gray and black. Soft and fluffy. Can be used in all seasons except mid-summer. Casual yet with a subdued color, it's easy to coordinate and will complement any outfit. (99% Cotton, 1% Polyurethane) Sold out

Please preshrink the fabric. Soak it in water, lightly spin dry, and hang it to dry. Iron it at a low temperature with a pressing cloth.
*If you usually wash your clothes in a washing machine, put them in a net and use a gentle cycle. Iron out wrinkles. Shrinkage will occur, but preshrinking before sewing will prevent future shrinkage from being a concern.
【Instructor: Hiromi Goto】
With many years of experience as a pattern maker, Hiromi Goto joined Itoshiro Yohinten in April 2025. She is constantly striving to convey the wonders of straight-cut garments. She will guide you carefully and thoroughly with her high level of sewing expertise.

About Sewing Skill Level
As a guideline, you can participate if:
・You can sew straight stitches by hand or machine.
・For hand sewing, you can do "running stitch" and "hemming stitch."
・You have made small items or clothes by machine or hand sewing.
This workshop is not just about following pattern instructions, but also about understanding "why this shape" and "why this sewing method." Therefore, it is suitable for those who want to advance beyond self-taught methods.
We will explain "why this shape" and "why this sewing method" as we go along, so it's designed for those who want to advance beyond self-taught methods.
About the Fabric-Included Workshop
This workshop will be held in a format where specified fabric is delivered as a set.
This is because,
・Ease of sewing
・Finished appearance
・Ease of understanding the structure
can vary greatly depending on the fabric.
By experiencing "why this fabric for this shape," we believe it will help you develop your judgment when making clothes in the future.
Therefore, we do not accept participation with your own fabric. Thank you for your understanding.
Can I really learn online?
Even online, we will teach the same content as the workshops held at Itoshiro.
We will prepare materials in advance, and on the day of the workshop, we will explain the process and concepts while showing our hands.
What happens if I miss a session?
If you are unable to attend, a recording will be sent to you at a later date. We will make arrangements to help you catch up on subsequent content.
Can I join midway through?
Generally, we recommend starting from the beginning.
The process is continuous, so it may be difficult to understand if you join midway.
