Wide yet Easy to Move In

These pants are roomy from the waist to just above the knee, yet have a slim silhouette down to the hem, making them easy to move in. They can be used in a wide range of situations, whether as loungewear, workwear, or for going out.

They are wider than "tatsuke" and slimmer than "hakama." As tapered pants that fall in between, they are supported by people of all body types and ages. If you are unsure between "tatsuke," "hakama," and "karusan," we recommend trying these first.

Sturdy Linen Fabric

This is a sturdy, medium-weight linen fabric that can be worn in spring, summer, and autumn. It uses linen fabric woven in Shiga Prefecture. It can be washed repeatedly at home and becomes softer and more comfortable with each use.

Casual or Elegant

The smooth plain weave surface suits an elegant atmosphere, while the natural linen texture can also be styled casually. This versatile material can be used in a wide range of situations.

■Production Story

Mr. Toshiharu, an 80-year-old man born and raised in Itoshiro, carefully preserves old clothes. He apparently watched his grandmother weave fabric since childhood.

We recreated the shape of a pair of trousers found in his collection. It is a new shape, different from the "tatsuke" and "hakama" we have made before. It seems he made them through trial and error to find a fit that was neither too slim nor too wide for his body, and this shape does not appear to be a common style in Itoshiro.

There were signs that he ingeniously made practical items from the fabric he had on hand. We named these trousers "Karusan," a term that also refers to wide-leg pants traditionally found in Itoshiro.
