These are tapered pants that are relaxed around the waist and upper thighs, yet have a slim silhouette down to the hem, making them easy to move in.

A large gusset at the crotch is a distinctive feature that increases the range of motion.

Long-awaited Black

We have received many requests for black. This time, we made it a reality using eco-dyed fabric. Black is easy to coordinate and can be paired with anything. It is suitable for a wide range of occasions, such as work or going out.

Beautiful back style

The clean back style conceals the crotch gusset. The silhouette is sleeker than previous "Tatsuke" and "Hakama" styles.

Organic Cotton Twill Fabric

This is a twill fabric woven and dyed in Hiroshima using organic cotton grown in Uganda.It is a high-quality fabric that softens with use, allowing you to enjoy its aging process.

It is a firm, crisp fabric with a solid weave, yet soft and comfortable against the skin.

Environmentally friendly dyeing method

The dyeing method used is eco-dyeing, which is environmentally friendly. It is characterized by slower fading and better color retention compared to indigo dyeing used for regular denim.

There are 3 sizes. A 165cm model is wearing size 1.

■ Production Story

Mr. Toshiharu, in his 80s, who was born and raised in Itoshiro, carefully preserves old clothes. He says he watched his grandmother weave from a young age.

We recreated the shape of a pair of trousers from his collection. It's a new shape, different from the "tatsuke" and "hakama" we've made so far. It seems he experimented to create something that fit his body shape, neither too slim nor too wide, so this shape isn't generally something found in Itoshiro.

We saw evidence of ingenuity in making useful items from available fabric. We named these trousers "Karusan," a term for wide pants also found in Itoshiro.

【Background of the Black Series production】

Why did I want to create black bottoms? It all started with this one old pair of tatsuke.

This "tatsuke" was made over 100 years ago and used by an old man. While most old clothes like this were indigo-dyed, this one was dyed black.

Even when I asked the locals, "What was this dyed with?", they would say, "It doesn't look like indigo, I wonder what it is..." and didn't know.

But this deep black color has always fascinated me, and I've always wanted to develop a black series someday.

And, while we experimented with various plant dyes, black was difficult to achieve in this region. Walnut leaves, gallnuts, layered indigo dyeing... At one point, we even developed a black using almond leaves in Cambodia, but it just wasn't financially feasible for release.

After searching for a satisfactory black fabric for many years, I finally came across a weaving mill in Hiroshima and discovered an eco-friendly black dye.

I'm very happy to be able to fulfill the many requests for black bottoms, in addition to the inspiration from old clothes.
