A large gusset in the crotch is a distinctive feature that expands the range of motion.

While denim often feels stiff and constricting, these are made from a thin, soft fabric with an elastic waist, allowing for a relaxed feel just like loungewear.

However, their crisp appearance means they can also be worn out and about.

The clean back style conceals the crotch gusset. The silhouette is sleeker than previous "tatsuke" or "hakama" styles.

Dark indigo organic cotton denim fabric

This denim fabric is dyed and woven in Hiroshima using organic cotton grown in Uganda. It softens with use, making it a high-quality fabric that you can enjoy as it ages.

With its tight weave and crispness, it offers the characteristic thickness and durability of denim.

Environmentally friendly dyeing method

The dyeing method used is an eco-dyeing process that is environmentally friendly. Compared to indigo dyeing typically used for denim, it fades more gradually and retains its color longer.

■Production Story

Mr. Toshiharu, an 80-year-old who was born and raised in Itoshiro, carefully preserves old clothes. He apparently watched his grandmother weave from a young age.

We recreated the shape of a pair of trousers from his collection. It is a new shape, different from the "tatsuke" and "hakama" we have made before. It seems he experimented to create something that fit his body perfectly, neither too slim nor too wide, and this shape does not appear to have been common in Itoshiro.

Traces were found where he ingeniously made usable items from the fabric he had on hand. We named these trousers "Karusan," a term referring to wide pants also passed down in Itoshiro.
