■Production Story

Toshiharu, an 80-year-old who was born and raised in Itoshiro, carefully preserves old clothes. He apparently watched his grandmother weave from a young age.

We recreated the shape of a pair of trousers found in his collection. It is a new shape, different from the "tatsuke" and "hakama" we have made before. It seems he experimented to create something that fit his own body type, neither too slim nor too wide, and this shape does not appear to be common in Itoshiro.

We saw evidence of ingenuity in making something practical from the fabric at hand. We named these trousers "karusan," a term used in Itoshiro to refer to wide-leg pants.
