Entire-House Rental Cottage Sukeshi 1st Anniversary
The Film That Was Our Turning Point: 'The Village That Became Water' — Group Viewing at Sukeshi
Thanks to your support, our traditional Japanese farmhouse-renovated entire-house rental cottage Sukeshi, completed in October 2025, is celebrating its 1st anniversary. To mark this occasion, we will host a group film screening in Sukeshi's dirt-floor entryway (formerly a horse stable).
The Film That Was a Turning Point for Our Owner Hirano
This is a documentary recording life lived in harmony with the bounty of the mountains, in a mountain village similar to Itoshiro.
Directed by Nobuo Ohnishi, this is a documentary about the people, the mountains, and daily life, filmed over countless trips to the village.
Watching this film was the catalyst that made Hirano realize the richness of life in the mountain countryside, and led him to decide to move to Itoshiro. Let's watch this film that was such a turning point here at Sukeshi.
Life Before the Village Was Submerged by the Dam
Tokuyama Village, in Ibi County, Gifu Prefecture, was abandoned to make way for a dam's construction. This film showcases the rich, natural daily life in Tokuyama Village, and the people who returned to the area after relocating to continue their traditional mountain lifestyle...

The director spent 15 years making repeated trips to the village to capture these people's lives and feelings "before the flood".
Experience the joyful, abundant daily life of former rural Japanese residents.
Enjoy Autumn in Itoshiro to the Fullest
This is the season where the scent of autumn fills the air when you take a stroll. Be sure to take some time to walk around and admire the autumn sky.
You can also visit the shop and gallery at Itoshiro Yohinten. If you have extra time, please stop by if you can.
We also plan to host an evening social gathering with the director, so please join us for that as well. This is a precious opportunity to talk about the film, share your thoughts and feelings after watching it, and express those ideas with others right here in the moment.
