Made for all genders and body types. It has the appeal of kimono, with a sense of “ma,” or space. Its design suits anyone and drapes over the body like fabric. You can glimpse the thoughts of our predecessors, who treasured cloth.

Made with rescued wool

“I can’t believe such wonderful fabric was lying dormant...” That’s something we often think when rescuing cloth. This was also the kind of fabric we wanted to bring out into the world and let someone see.

The overall impression is dark navy, but it is a very carefully crafted, intricate fabric with a brown-and-navy herringbone weave.

■Production story

This piece was made based on a garment borrowed from Risako, who is now in her 90s. Its defining feature is the sleeves, called “mojiri-sode,” made by folding and sewing together a rectangle.

I still remember the shock I felt the first time I actually saw these sleeves. I realized that a single piece of fabric could create a triangular sleeve shape, and that this sleeve has the same structure as the sleeves of Ainu clothing.

Iteshiro is a settlement that has existed since the Jomon period, so there may be some connection. This design was created while imagining the romance of a long history.
