"Travel Echizen Shirt"

Itoshiro Clothing Store and IKI LUCA, a brand with a travel concept, met in Kyoto (※) while traveling, and thus this shirt was born! ※DIALOGUE KYOTO

This fabric uses the popular Kurume Kasuri (striped) natural indigo dye fabric from IKI LUCA. It is carefully woven over approximately three months at Shimokawa Orimono in Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture.

Softer with every wear

A characteristic of Kurume Kasuri is that the more you use it, the softer and more comfortable it becomes, lasting long and improving in texture.

Eventually, it will become as soft and pleasant to the touch as gauze, so please enjoy it for a long time.

Background and Thoughts

A single "happi" coat was found in Itoshiro. Made from a soft, flowing cotton fabric, the happi was discovered stored away in the house of "Gohyo," a family known by their traditional house name in Itoshiro.

Kurume Kasuri is a very high-quality and luxurious fabric, and clothes made from it seem to have been cherished and used for a long time. (Of course, I believe all fabrics, not just Kurume Kasuri, were treasured.)

"Someday I want to make clothes from Kurume Kasuri."

Every time I thought about the connection the ancestors of this land had with Kurume Kasuri, I would think this.

In March 2023, I met Tomoko Ogura of IKI LUCA, who makes clothes from Kurume Kasuri fabric, at the DIALOGUE exhibition in Kyoto, and I was drawn to Kurume.

Tomoko Ogura loves Kurume, the town where she was born and raised, and wants to share the stories of her hometown with the world! She creates "clothes that accompany your travels" using Kurume Kasuri, which has been woven locally for about 220 years. When I actually visited Kurume, I was filled with love not only for the fabric but also for the land, and I quickly fell in love with Kurume myself.

This time, we decided to tailor the Echizen shirt using Kurume Kasuri. It's a special piece that you can enjoy comfortably for a long time. I was captivated by the beauty of the indigo-dyed kasuri, and that's why I chose this fabric.

A creation that minimizes fabric waste through straight cutting

This shirt is an adaptation of the "Echizen shirt," a front-button shirt traditionally found in this region.



We constantly consider how to avoid harming the environment and how to ensure comfort for those who wear our clothes. Eliminating fabric waste is a given, and we strive to achieve this by learning from the wisdom of our predecessors.

"This shirt doesn't make your shoulders stiff."

While shirts suitable for formal occasions often feel tight around the shoulders, the Echizen shirt's shoulder line drops like a kimono, making it very comfortable.

The wisdom that allows it to be worn by people of all shoulder shapes comes from its origin as workwear.

You can use it stress-free for both a professional atmosphere at work and relaxing time on your days off. As a front-button shirt, it can also be used as a cover-up to protect against air conditioning.
