About the Echizen Maxi Dress

The Echizen Maxi Dress is an elegant dress crafted from a flowy, satin-like organic cotton fabric, while still rooted in the traditional "Echizen Shirt" from Itoshiro.

While retaining the simple structure of the Echizen shirt, which was originally workwear, we prioritize a beautiful drape and comfortable fabric.

We pay close attention to the fabric, length, and color to create an elegant garment that can also be worn on special occasions.

About the Material and Fabric — Soft Texture

This fabric is 100% organic cotton satin.
While retaining the soft texture characteristic of organic cotton, we increase the fabric density to create an elegant sheen and a flowy drape. Customers who try it on often exclaim, "It feels so good," due to its softness.

Generous Width and Comfortable Silhouette

The maxi-length Echizen dress offers a comfortable fit with its generous width, ensuring no feeling of restriction.

The design with unset shoulders and small triangular gussets at the armpits allows for free movement of the arms. The hem falls straight down, not flaring out too much, creating a mature silhouette.

The deep slits make it easy to walk in, despite being a maxi-length dress.

As a Dress or a Cover-up

This Echizen dress can easily be coordinated as a standalone dress, or you can enjoy different styles by adjusting the accompanying waist belt.

Gentle Tones of Botanical Dyes

The color options are primarily indigo, marigold khaki, loquat pink, and marigold yellow, with bi-colors and variations sometimes added depending on the year.

Indigo is dyed repeatedly to achieve a deep hue. Khaki/moss green is a chic color achieved by combining marigold flowers with iron compounds. Yellow is created from himejion (Philadelphia fleabane) and marigold, each yielding different shades. Orange is dyed with Akaso, a plant whose stems turn red in summer.

Sophisticated and Chic Moss Green

We cultivate marigolds in our fields, harvest the flowers, and use them for dyeing.

This moss green achieves its subdued, calming hue through iron mordanting, which involves applying iron to the fabric. By applying iron to the beautifully vibrant yellow of marigolds, we create this moss green.


It's a chic and mature color, suitable for work or outings, and also appropriate for formal occasions.

We want you to enjoy your garment for a long time, so here are some care instructions and information about our repair service.

■How to care

• Turn the garment inside out, then place it in a large laundry net.
• Place it in the washing machine with enough space and wash on a gentle cycle.
• Use a neutral detergent, or if it's not very dirty, water alone is sufficient.
• After washing, gently spread it out and hang dry in the shade, still inside out.
• Since indigo and botanical dyes are sensitive to light, store them in a dark closet or drawer to prevent fading.
• When storing for off-season, using moth repellents is recommended.

■Repairs

• For fading, we offer re-dyeing. You can also change from botanical dye to indigo dye. Please inquire for details.
• We also offer mending for patches and fraying, so please feel free to consult us.
