About Echizen Dress

The Echizen Dress is a dress designed to be comfortably worn in modern daily life, rooted in the traditional "Echizen Shirt" from Itoshiro. Based on the structure of the Echizen Shirt, which originated as workwear, it has been tailored to be worn more freely and lightly in daily life.

Within its simple design, the philosophy of Itoshiro Youhinten's clothing production breathes: natural materials, botanical dyeing, and straight-cut tailoring.

A non-restrictive shape created by straight cutting

The Echizen Dress is tailored using straight cuts, just like a kimono. Cutting fabric in a straight line prevents waste and simultaneously creates a shape that naturally adapts to the wearer's body.

A silhouette that doesn't emphasize the body line, with a certain amount of ease. The sway of the fabric as you move and the flow of air are also comforts unique to this structure.

About the design

The Echizen Dress is an open-front dress that is more an extension of a shirt than what is typically called a dress. It is designed to create a relaxed look while utilizing the basic structure of the Echizen Shirt.

It can be worn as a dress by closing the front or as a light jacket by leaving it open. By not limiting how it can be worn, it has become a versatile piece that naturally plays an active role in daily life.

Material: Domestic Linen

The material used is 100% linen, which is comfortable for spring and summer.

Shiga Prefecture has long been a hemp producing region. We source our linen from a weaving mill there that adapts its weaving techniques to the times. The fabric is carefully made with high skill. It has a firm texture, but becomes very soft with use, making it a high-quality linen.

Its smooth, refreshing feel and excellent breathability ensure comfort even during warm seasons.

Indigo, a traditional Japanese color.We dye indigo during the summer using indigo leaves grown in our fields.

This piece was dyed multiple times to achieve the traditional Japanese indigo color. Its calm hue makes it versatile and popular. The color varies each year it's dyed, making each encounter unique. We hope you appreciate this charm.

Care instructions

• Turn inside out, place in a net, and wash gently with a neutral detergent on a delicate cycle.
• Hang dry in the shade, keeping it inside out.
• As botanical dyes are sensitive to light, store in a dark place.
• Iron from the inside out at medium to low temperature.
• If you want to completely remove linen wrinkles, iron while the fabric is semi-dry for a neat finish.
• Repair and re-dyeing services are available. These services are only possible during the summer months [May-August].
