Natural Color of Sheep

This gray is the natural color of sheep's wool.
The fabric was developed using wool from "Black Merino" sheep, a rare breed with a small global population. Its natural shade gives it a gentle feel that is easy to pair with anything.

■Production Story

Warm coats are essential in cold Itoshiro. That's why we developed this Black Merino wool. Committed to natural, undyed colors, we explored whether this could be achieved with wool, experimenting with botanical dyeing and other methods. However, we then discovered that there are indeed sheep that naturally come in colors!

It was the most eco-friendly situation possible—no dyeing needed. We immediately reached out to various fabric manufacturers and connected with a knitter in Japan who handles high-quality wool, among the best in the country. This veteran Osaka-based fabric mill, with its advanced technical expertise, produced a cashmere-grade, high-quality material for us.

Because these sheep are few in number and our brand is small with low lot requirements, we were able to create this fabric from naturally colored (undyed) sheep.
