"Hie" (barnyard millet) was the soul food of the people of Itoshiro. In the days before rice paddies were possible, it was cultivated by slash-and-burn farming and served as a staple food.

Although it is no longer eaten as a staple, an organic farmer who moved here has revived its cultivation and is producing it as a new beverage.
How to make a delicious drink
Place water and a packet in a pot or kettle and boil until it reaches a rolling boil. Once it has developed a deep color, remove the packet and enjoy. We recommend about 200cc of water per packet.
To enjoy anytime, effortlessly.
The trick is to make a large batch at once, as it resists oxidation and its flavor doesn't change much after brewing.
Also, brewing multiple packets at once extracts a richer, more umami-filled flavor.
As a guide, you can make 1 liter with 8 packets (or even 2 liters if you brew them for a sufficiently long time). Then, store it in the refrigerator and enjoy it anytime, hot or iced.
"Black Hie Coffee" and "White Hie Tea"

Black Hie Coffee is made by roasting hie and black rice, and when brewed for a long time, it develops a rich flavor similar to coffee, earning it the moniker of "brown rice coffee." (The picture on the left shows it as a latte with milk.)

White Hie Tea is made solely from hie, offering a refreshing and clean aftertaste. It is also recommended to drink it iced.
One pack contains 16 tetra packets.
