Softness You’ll Want to Wear Forever

The soft brushed feel against the skin is the most comforting, wonderful texture you’ll find. It’s especially recommended for those with sensitive skin.

Wide Range of Clothing You Can Make

You can use this fabric for all outerwear pieces, including Echizen shirts, Echizen dresses, three-sleeve shirts, and gathered-sleeve haori coats. It also works great for bottoms, including Hakama and wide-leg karusan pants. Tapered tucked pants expose the knees, so they’re not a good fit (unless you make them in a larger size, in which case it’s okay).

Domestically Woven Organic Cotton

This is a precious material woven domestically in Japan. Crafted with high-level techniques, it has an incredibly smooth feel against the skin.

Washing Instructions

Wash by hand before sewing, or place in a laundry bag and wash on a gentle cycle.

Our Craft Story

Ishidarezumi Western Goods Shop publishes its own clothing-making tutorials. We developed this fabric specifically for handcraft projects because we, too, were generously taught how to make clothes by members of our local community.

It once was commonplace for everyone to make their own clothing, with every family member wearing the garments they’d created. People naturally built their own lives with their own hands.

We can’t replicate the full lives of our ancestors, but we want to share the joy of handcrafting and the pride of wearing something you made yourself with as many people as possible. That’s why we regularly host workshops and similar events.
