Lightweight Undyed Linen

This smooth, lightweight fabric can be enjoyed widely from early spring through late fall. It has a balanced density that makes it easy to work with, and it grows softer with each use, developing a gauze-like texture. As it’s undyed, it features the natural, distinctive color of linen.

Perfect for a Wide Range of Upper Garments

It works for a huge range of projects, including Echizen shirts, three-sleeve shirts, and Echizen blouses. Linen is often tricky to work with, but this fabric is relatively easy to sew. If you purchase a larger cut, you can also use it for lightweight bottoms like hakama or loose casual trousers.

Domestically Woven, Made in Shiga Prefecture

It is woven in Shiga, the historic production region for Omi linen. The raw material is sourced from France, and spinning is completed in China. This fabric embodies Japan's premium weaving craftsmanship, and has become a staple fabric at Ishidetsu Shiro Yohinten.

Washing Instructions

Hand wash before sewing, or place the fabric in a laundry bag and wash on a gentle cycle.

Our Craft Story

Ishidetsu Shiro Yohinten publicly shares its own clothing-making guides. We developed this fabric specifically for DIY crafting because, just as local residents generously taught us how to make clothes, we wanted to pass on that same spirit of generosity.

It is said that in the past, it was second nature for everyone to make their own clothing, with every family member wearing garments they’d made themselves. People naturally built their own daily lives with their own two hands.

We can’t live exactly like our ancestors did, but we want to share the joy of handmade crafts and the pride of wearing something you’ve made yourself with as many people as possible, which is why we regularly host workshops.
