Recommended Fabric for Making Traditional Work Trousers (Sewing Machine Recommended)

This fabric is for making your own traditional work trousers. We’ve created 36cm-wide fabric specifically for making trousers, and it’s 4.5m long, so you can make a wide range of sizes up to our size 4 (height ~190cm, waist 85cm~, hip 110cm~).

It’s pre-cut to 34-35cm and finished with a serger to seal raw edges, so cutting will be quick and easy.

We’re offering our long-selling linen-cotton denim blend fabric as a DIY craft fabric.

Made from 30% linen and 70% cotton, this mid-weight fabric is suitable for all seasons.

It has a firm, structured handfeel when new, but will soften over time with use.

A sewing machine is recommended for this project. For best results, use 60-weight all-purpose thread in natural undyed to off-white, and a size 11 sewing needle.

■ About Washing

Wash by hand or place in a laundry bag and wash on a gentle cycle before sewing.
Please note that shrinkage may occur depending on your washing machine and washing method.

■ Our Story

Ishidetsu Shiro Yoheen has published instructions for making our own branded trousers. We developed this fabric for DIY projects because, just as local residents generously taught us how to make traditional work trousers, we wanted to share that knowledge with others.

It used to be that everyone made their own traditional work trousers, and every member of the family wore them. People once simply made the things they needed for their daily lives without hesitation.

We can’t fully replicate the lives of our ancestors, but we want to share the joy of handcrafting and the pride of wearing something you made yourself with as many people as possible. That’s why we regularly host workshops and other craft events.
