Soft to the Touch
We indigo-dyed a fluffy gauze stole made from organic cotton. It is soft and incredibly comfortable, recommended even for those with sensitive skin. It offers a gentle, enveloping feel.

Indigo Dyeing: A Summer Staple
Indigo, a traditional Japanese color. We make sukumo from indigo leaves grown in our fields, prepare the indigo vat, and perform indigo dyeing during the summer.

Indigo dyeing is labor-intensive, but it is the crystallization of Japanese wisdom passed down by our ancestors. It produces incredibly captivating colors. This sky blue, in particular, is achieved by repeatedly dyeing for short periods when the indigo color is lighter.
During the indigo dyeing season, it feels like I've gained more children. That's how much care and attention the indigo requires. Managing the indigo vats is a lot of work, but in return, they produce truly beautiful colors.

In the past, indigo-dyed clothing was worn during mountain work to ward off venomous snakes and had insect-repelling properties, incorporated into daily life as a "beauty of utility."
When the dye can no longer produce color, it eventually returns to the earth. I hope to continue this natural indigo dyeing tradition in this region for many years to come.
