Development Story

In chilly Itoshiro, warm everyday essentials are a must. That’s what led us to develop this black merino wool line. As a brand that prioritizes natural, non-chemical colors, we’ve tested plant-based dyeing and other methods to achieve that unmodified, earthy look. But then we discovered: there are sheep that naturally come in beautiful, rich colors!

We didn’t need to dye the wool at all—this is the most eco-friendly option possible. We quickly reached out to multiple wool suppliers, and found one of Japan’s leading suppliers of high-quality wool, a long-established mill in Osaka. This craftsperson’s expert craftsmanship creates cashmere-level premium materials.

This naturally colored sheep wool fabric is something we could only create because we’re a small brand like Itoshiro, with a small production run—since the herds of these colored sheep are quite small.
