How to Make a Digital Tuck-Sleeve Haori [Itoshiro Minoi Series]

I’ve created a booklet explaining how to make a mojiri-sleeve haori.

This haori is constructed using only straight cuts, with a distinctive sleeve shape. This sleeve style appears in Ainu clothing, as well as in the old indigo-dyed folk garments remaining in Ishitoroshi.

I created this because I wanted more people to make the "mojiri-sleeve" garments traditionally produced in the mountain village of Ishitoroshi, Gifu Prefecture.

We received a request from customers asking for hashtags so they can see what other makers have created. When you post photos of your garments on social media, use these tags alongside your photos:

■ Production Story

Many people are surprised that we are publicly sharing detailed instructions for the garments we primarily produce and sell as the Ishitoroshi Clothing Store. We decided to share these tutorials because we want more people to learn about the beauty of tatsuke.

Originally, we learned these techniques from the local elder women in our community without hesitation. We want to share this knowledge with more people, and share the surprise and joy of making your own garments, or the pleasure of wearing clothing you made yourself.

We also host irregular workshops based on this booklet, so we hope we can share the joy of making things together.
