How to make Tattsuke [Itoshiro Folk Clothing Series]

*We released the 4th edition of the Tatsuke sewing guide on November 23, 2024.

We created a booklet explaining how to make the Tatsuke that we produce in our shop.

We've put together an easy-to-understand guide to making the Tatsuke, a comfortable pair of farm work trousers that can be made using only straight cuts.

We created this guide because we want as many people as possible to learn how to make the Tatsuke, a traditional garment from the mountain village of Ishidoraishiro in Gifu Prefecture.

This updated, easier-to-follow guide replaces the Tatsuke sewing guide we sold since around 2013, and is based on the "Noragi Tatsuke" currently sold at Ishidoraishiro Western Goods Store.

■ Production Story

Many people are surprised that we are publicly sharing detailed instructions for the clothing we primarily produce and sell as Ishidoraishiro Western Goods Store. We made the decision to share these guides because we want more people to learn about the wonderfulness of Tatsuke.

Originally, we ourselves learned these skills directly from the local elder women in our community. We want to pass this knowledge on to as many people as possible, and share the surprise and joy of making your own clothing, or the pleasure of wearing clothes you made yourself.

We also hold irregular workshops based on this booklet, workshops, so we hope we can share the joy of making things together.
