Recommended fabrics for making tatsuke
This is a cloth for making your own tatami mats. We have created a 35cm wide cloth that is necessary for making tatami mats. The length is 4.5m, so it is possible to make a wide range of sizes up to our size 4 (height up to 190cm, waist 85cm~, hips 110cm~).
It is cut to 34-35cm and the edges are finished with a serger, making it easy to cut.
This is a medium-weight plain-weave linen fabric that we use in our workshops. It can be used for three seasons except mid-winter. It is an easy-to-hand sew fabric for beginners.
It will be stiff when you first start using it, but it will soften as you use it.
Please use this in conjunction with "How to Make Tatsuke."
We have also created a video that provides detailed instructions on how to make the product based on this booklet.
You can watch this for free on YouTube .

■ Production Story
Ishiteshiro Clothing Store publishes how they make their own pants. This time, we planned to make the fabric needed to make them by hand. The reason for this is that we, too, were generously taught how to make "tatsuke" by local people.
In the past, everyone made their own kimonos and everyone in their family wore them. They created their own lifestyles by themselves.
Although we cannot practice all the ways of our ancestors, we would like to share with as many people as possible the joy of making things by hand and the pleasure of wearing something you have made yourself, so we hold regular workshops.
