"Traveling Echizen Shirt"

It was born when Ishitoshiro Clothing Store and IKI LUCA, a travel-themed store, met while traveling in Kyoto (※)! ※DIALOGUE KYOTO

This fabric is made of Kurume Kasuri natural indigo dyed (striped) fabric, which is very popular at IKI LUCA. It is carefully woven by Shimokawa Textiles in Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture, over a period of about three months.

The more you wear it, the softer it becomes

The characteristic of Kurume Kasuri is that the more you use it, the softer and more comfortable it becomes, and it becomes durable, long-lasting, and has a better texture.

Eventually it will feel as pleasant as gauze on your skin, so you can use it for a long time.

Limited time and quantity order items

This is the first time we have tailored something using Kurume Kasuri. We will be accepting orders until August 18th, and deliveries will be made within December 2024. It will take some time, but we hope you will look forward to it.

Background and thoughts

A "happi" coat found in Itoshiro. Made from soft, melting cotton fabric, it was lying dormant in the home of a man named "Gohei" in Itoshiro.

Kurume Kasuri is a very high-quality, luxurious fabric, and clothes made from it seem to have been treasured and used for a long time. (Of course, I think that any fabric was treasured, not just Kurume Kasuri.)

"I want to make clothes using Kurume Kasuri someday."

I think about this every time I think about the connection between this area's ancestors and Kurume Kasuri.

In March 2023, I met Ogura Tomoko of IKI LUCA, who makes clothes from Kurume kasuri fabric, at the DIALOGUE exhibition in Kyoto, and I became drawn to Kurume.

Tomoko Ogura loves her hometown of Kurume, where she was born and raised, and wants to spread the story of her hometown to the world! She makes "clothes that accompany you on your journey" using Kurume Kasuri, a fabric that has been woven locally for about 220 years. When I actually visited Kurume, I was filled with love not only for the fabric but also for the land, and I immediately fell in love with Kurume myself.

This time, I decided to use Kurume Kasuri to make an Echizen shirt. It is a special piece that can be used comfortably for a long time. I chose this fabric because I fell in love with the beauty of indigo-dyed Kasuri.

Straight cutting ensures there is no waste of fabric

This shirt is an adaptation of the Echizen shirt, a button-front shirt that is a traditional local item.

We are always thinking about how to protect the environment and make our customers feel comfortable when wearing our clothes. We take it for granted that we need to eliminate fabric waste, and we work to achieve this by learning from the wisdom of our predecessors.

"It's a shirt that doesn't cause stiff shoulders."

Shirts that can be worn in formal settings are often tight around the shoulders, but Echizen shirts have dropped shoulders like a kimono, making them very comfortable.

The reason why it can be worn by people of all shoulder shapes is that it was originally used as work clothing in the past.

You can wear it without stress for a proper look at work or for relaxing on your days off. Since it is a button-up shirt, it can also be worn as a jacket to protect you from the air conditioning.
