[Ishitoshiro Recordings] "The Winter Postman" by Sakae Saruhashi has been uploaded to YouTube
This is a collection of stories that were transcribed and edited from stories told by elderly people in their 70s and 80s in the Itoshiro area. The owner, Hirano, reads some of them aloud and has started posting them on YouTube in the hope that many people will be able to learn about the lifestyle and culture that has been handed down in Itoshiro for a long time.
This book of oral history is not a collection of oral history that Hirano has been conducting as a personal activity in the local area, but a compilation compiled by the Itoshiro Community Center.
Recording by oral communication is a method of listening to the stories of local elderly people, transcribing them, editing them, and presenting them in a way that is as if they were speaking the words of the people themselves.
It gives us a good idea of how the elders of Itoshiro felt as they lived here, and it gives us a lot of hints for living here. It's a very satisfying read, with many stories that will make you smile or even cry.

You can also purchase the transcripts from our online store.
