In May 2022, Ishiteshiro Clothing Store will celebrate its 10th anniversary.
I'm truly grateful to all the customers, makers, staff, and kind people in this community who have supported us for the past 10 years. Thank you so much.
It's been 10 years since I started as a small individual, and 5 years since I started the company. It's been such a fulfilling time that it feels like only 10 years have passed.
As we mark this 10-year milestone, we would like to move forward with the theme of "returning to our roots" in order to get back to our roots.
Therefore, we have decided to reopen the Motoumagoya Gallery, the location where we first started our shop 10 years ago.
There is now a stone building that serves as our store, but 10 years ago there was no such building and our store was located in a former horse stable just inside the entrance to our main house (our home).
The exhibits there were changed regularly and it was also used as a gallery.
We opened in May 2012, and then in December of the same year we gave birth to our first son, and then our second son. We wanted to set up a store in a different location than our parents' house, so we built a new building and the Former Stable Gallery remained closed.
The former horse stable has become a storage space as the children's bicycles and toys pile up, but I have a strong attachment to this space.
In Itoshiro, horses were used for farming, and at times this house had two horses. The reason why this place, which is easily visible to guests as soon as you enter the entrance, was a stable was because there was a lot of snow, and if a separate building was built for the horses, it would have been difficult to maintain them, such as by removing the snow, for a reason unique to Itoshiro, so the stable was located inside the main house.
This main house was built 140 years ago, and I believe horses have lived here for a long time. In this place where traces of the lives of the people of Itoshiro can be seen, I would like to exhibit the old clothing and other items that have covered and protected the people here.
From our opening on May 4th until October 30th, before the snowy months of November, we will be changing the displays regularly so that you can always see our old clothes, so we hope you will stop by when you are visiting the store.
As with last year and the year before, visits to our main store and Motobagoya Gallery will require an advance reservation.
Please contact us using the application form at least 3 days in advance (please note that we may not be able to accept your request after this date).
In addition to the gallery exhibitions, we will also be holding regular "gallery talks." We will be explaining the clothes and talking about the culture and origins of clothing in Itoshiro, so we hope you will plan to attend these as well.
