5/22,29 Online Plant Dyeing Workshop

This year, we will be holding an online vegetable dyeing workshop hosted by Nippon Tenaraido. Let's try vegetable dyeing for the first time using flowers and plants that are close at hand. Of course, repeaters are also welcome! The dye material used this time is mugwort. We hope you will enjoy the calming, pale color and scent of mugwort.
When dyeing with plants, various types of minerals are sandwiched between the fabric to fix the colors of the plants to the fabric. This is a process called "mordanting." The best part of dyeing is that the color changes depending on the mordant used. In this workshop, we will try alum mordant in the first session, and iron mordant in the second session. This is a two-part workshop where you will learn how to make iron mordant at home using common items, and how to dye with it!
