1-Day Clothing Making Workshop
We will be holding a traveling workshop on how to make "tattsuke" or "hakama," a traditional garment made with straight cuts that has been passed down in Itoshiro.
"Tatsuke" and "Hakama" are pants that have been carefully designed with straight cutting and straight stitching to create clothes that are easy to move in. By cutting in straight lines, no fabric is wasted, which means that the environmental impact is minimized. This is truly the "culmination" of Japanese dressmaking that the Japanese people have cultivated.
We would like as many people as possible to know about the wisdom and techniques of Japanese clothing making, which are being lost. We also believe that being self-sufficient in food, clothing and shelter is a necessary skill for the world of the future.
That's why we decided to travel around the country and hold classes to teach how to make tatami mats and hakama.
Why not try making clothes for yourself, your partner, or your child from a single piece of fabric?
Outline of the on-site lecture:
-
We will travel anywhere in the country and our staff will carefully support you in making your clothes.
-
This is a machine sewing class, so you can complete it in one day.
-
We will connect with Itoshiro online and have a Q&A session with the store owner, Hirano, about the Itoshiro area and the activities of Itoshiro Clothing Store.
-
You will be able to touch old tatami mats and fabrics that were actually used in Itoshiro, and we will also talk about the history and clothing culture of Itoshiro.
